Term Content

Term 1

 Start your journey by learning the core skills every hairdresser needs: hygiene protocols, tool maintenance, shampooing, and scalp treatments. You’ll practice relaxing head massages, master basic braiding, and create simple finished styles. This stage also introduces you to color theory and lightening techniques, giving you the confidence to handle real clients in the student salon.

 By the end of Stage 1, you’ll know how to keep clients safe, comfortable, and looking great with classic styles.

Term 2

Dive into cutting techniques. From solid one-length bobs to layered and graduated shapes. Learn to design haircuts that suit face shapes and lifestyles, while adopting sustainable salon practices. You’ll also explore salon professionalism, ensuring you’re ready to work in any team environment.

Leave this stage able to deliver Haircuts cuts with clean lines and modern flair.

Can I study this course part-time?

Yes! We offer Part-time and blended studies for this course

Do I need any prior experience in Hair?

No prior experience is necessary. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to expand your skills, this course is designed to suit all levels.

What are the study requirements?
For full time study, this course requires 30 – 35 hours nominal hours of study per week. This consists of attending live / recorded classroom sessions, supervised practicals, structured learning activities, including homework, assignments, assessment preparation and online study.

To achieve the SHB30416 Cert III in Hairdressing, students must successfully complete all 28 units of the course.

How will I be assessed?

Assessments include practical projects, quizzes, and assignments that demonstrate your Hairdressing skills and knowledge. Your trainer will provide feedback and support throughout the course.

Other Materials and Resource Costs

Domestic students are required to purchase an Hairdressing Essentials Kit for $1,600. This will include Mannequins needed for cutting, coloring and chemical straightening, a Swatch Kit, 12 month Pivot Point License and other materials.

Additional equipment for the course can be purchased through our Industry Partner for an exclusive discount or can be acquired by the student.

When is the cutoff date to enrol for the course?

There is no actual cut-off date for domestic students to enrol for any of our courses, as all of our classes fill based on demand. We advise that anyone interested in studying with us enrol as soon as they can to avoid missing out on a place. International students would need to have their enrolment form and deposit in so that their eCoE can be issued. Visa processing times vary but you should allow up to 8-12 weeks. Where possible we recommend applying for your visa as soon as you have received your eCoE.

Can I study Multiple Courses at Once?

This depends largely on which courses you’re wanting to study.
If you’re interested in studying more than once course with us we offer discounts on tuition for multiple enrolments and up-front payments.

Can I apply for Recognised Prior Learning or Credit Transfer?

At TMT Education, we recognize your existing skills and knowledge. Through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfers, you may reduce your study time by earning credit for:

  • Work experience (e.g., salon assistants, apprentices).

  • Past qualifications (e.g., completed units from other institutions).

  • Informal training (e.g., workshops, online courses).
